Dentures are Not the Answer

Tell removable denture wearers that there is a well proven, scientifically validated, bone-anchored alternative to the countless social, emotional and even nutritional disappointments they’ve faced since losing their teeth and they will be eager to know more.

Why Overdentures?

The clinical application of multi-unit, implant-supported restorations in edentulous jaws has proven to be a predictable long-term treatment option. In this propitious context, implantretained removable solutions provide a number of interesting advantages for select patients.

The Zygomatic Angle

Patients with chronic periodontal disease (a.k.a. “terminal dentition patients”) are often advised to remove their remaining teeth in order to improve their oral and overall health, but time after time, they do not follow this recommendation. One might ask, “How can this information be so plain to see, yet at the same time so hard to convey?”

NobelActive® 3.0 safe and reliable

At the International Osteology Symposium in Monaco, May 2–4, 2013, the results of a novel narrow 3.0 mm diameter NobelActive implant were presented. Safety and efficacy were evaluated with various loading protocols in this multi-center retrospective analysis.1

The feasibility of narrow 3.0 mm diameter NobelActive implants in anterior areas with limited space or for replacement of congenitally missing teeth has been demonstrated with a variety of loading protocols at six centers. One of 29 implants placed in 24 patients was lost related to study-unrelated trauma (automobile accident) at two months of follow-up. At one year of follow-up, all remaining implants survived, soft tissue evaluation showed no bleeding on probing, and good papilla index scores were observed. The authors concluded that the 3.0 mm NobelActive implant is a safe and viable option in anterior areas with limited space.

The Peri-implant Mucosa – Sanguine Dreams and Harsh Reality

Dental implants are inserted into alveolar bone to initiate osseointegration, with the clinician’s expectation that the peri-implant mucosa will heal to the abutment surface and subsequently provide the primary functions of the gingiva: protection and stability. The reality is a different one and has clinical implications.
